Partnership Highlights:
- In January 2009, YES partnered with the Thunder Bay Indian Friendship Centre to bring Thunder Bay the Wiijnikiind-Working With Each Other Employer Forum. Ninety-six (96) guests were in attendance on Friday January 16th, 2009 at the Valhalla Inn. Keynote speaker Elijah Harper addressed employment issues in the context of Aboriginal history, drawing attention to the impact of Residential Schools on generations of Aboriginal families. He also highlighted his own career in politics and as a Human Rights Activist in Canada and internationally. The speech was both inspiring and entertaining and acted as the ideal backdrop for the statistical, recruiting and retention information that was to follow.
- YES also partnered with FWFN during the week of March 16-20th 2009 to provide interested individuals the opportunity to make themselves more marketable in the Tourism and Food and Beverage Industries. Certification for 50 participants was provided for certification in Smart Serve and Safe Food Handling. The training was funded by FWFN and delivered by YES Employment Services in the FWFN Community Centre.
