Most of the programs and services that YES provides, including Employment Assistance Services, Job Development and the Job Search Skills Workshop, now fall under the Employment Ontario umbrella. The Job Find Initiative is funded by Service Canada. The Summer Jobs for Youth program is funded by the Ministry of Children and Youth Services.
Employment Ontario’s Job Connect program is funded by the Ontario government. Through Job Connect, YES delivers employment counselling to eligible clients. For those who require additional assistance, the program also provides job development and placement support. The training placement opportunities through Job Connect are directed to those unemployed individuals in the community who are most in need. The primary focus continues to be youth. For individuals who are ready to conduct a job search independently, services include self-directed access to our resource area and supportive workshops. These services are open to all job seekers. Workshops offered include the certification courses Service Excellence Training, Team Excellence, and Smart Serve, and General WHMIS training at minimal cost with financial assistance available to eligible clients. Free workshops now include the Employment Training Essentials series which offer clients assistance with everything from basic life skills to job maintenance skills.
We are also providing the Employment Ontario Summer Jobs Service for students again this summer. This is a $2.00/hr subsidy for employers wanting to hire a student during the summer months. Job Connect and Summer Jobs Service by YES is available in Thunder Bay, Nipigon and through our office at Fort William First Nation.
By the end of this fiscal year, we anticipate seeing over 12,000 job seekers utilize the resources and services that we deliver. With a youth unemployment that continues to remain high and youth migration out of the community, it is encouraging to see a continued commitment by government to fund employment programs for youth and those facing employability challenges.
