What you need to know
- A job developer will
pre-screen young people using criteria that you provide.
- You will consider only applicants
who are willing and ready to work.
- All recruiting, job posting and screening
services are provided free of charge.
- you make the final decision regarding who you will hire.
- Your job developer will provide on-going support to
ensure that the person you hire will become a productive member of your team.
- You may be eligible for a training subsidy.
Your Responsibilities
- You must be licensed to operate your business in Ontario (provide
Revenue Canada number)
- You must be offering a position in the local community
- You must have WSIB or alternate coverage as well
as Third Party Liability Insurance.
- If a training subsidy is negotiated, the employee hired
cannot be related to the employer (immediate family or by marriage).

Q. How
much do I pay a trainee?
A. Trainees must
be paid at least minimum wage or that received by
other employees performing similar work.
Q. Are
employers given a training incentive?
A. Yes, Employers
may be eligible for a training incentive.
Q. How
many trainees is an employer allowed?
A. An employer
may hire as many trainees as he needs.
Q. What
happens if the training isnt working out?
A. In consulting
with a Job Developer, concerns may be resolved.
Otherwise, there is no obligation on the
employers part to continue with the training.
Q. What
happens if a trainee gets injured on the job?
A. Employers must
report any accident to the Job Developer which
happens on the job. WCB coverage is the
responsibility of the delivery agency.
Q. Can we
interview a trainee before committing to a placement?
A. Yes! Trainees
can be interviewed and references can be checked.
Q. How
long is the training period?
A. Training
period is flexible depending on the complexity of the job.
Q. How
many hours can a trainee work?
A. Trainees can
work regular hours to a maximum of 44 hours/week.
Q. Can a trainee work shift work?
A.
Yes!
Trainees are expected to work the normal hours
required by the business.
Q. Are we
allowed to hire family members?
A. An employer
cannot hire members of immediate family or family
through marriage.
